Scots Add Pikeville for Home Football

Maryville Facing Four 2024 Playoff Teams on 2025 Slate

2025 Schedule

MARYVILLE – Maryville has made a slight but notable change to its 2025 football schedule, adding a September home game against Pikeville.

The Scots were forced into the switch after Greensboro asked to get out of the scheduled Sept. 20 game in Maryville. The Pride were offered a money-game against FCS Davidson after Davidson lost St. Andrews as an opponent when that institution closed.

But the Scots found Pikeville willing to play on Honaker Field at Lloyd L. Thornton Stadium on Sept. 27, which previously was Maryville's bye week. Pikeville went 6-6 overall last year but 5-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, earning a playoff appearance and advancing to the second round of the NAIA Playoffs.

Maryville advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs and now plays four teams who were in the postseason in 2024. In addition to Pikeville, Maryville faces playoff teams Centre, Berry and Trinity (Texas) as part of its debut season in the Southern Athletic Association.

"We're excited to add the University of Pikeville to our schedule for the 2025 season," Scots head coach Ben Fox said. "We were able to keep a home game, which I know is important for our fans and for our players. And this is going to be a great test for us.

"They were a playoff team in the NAIA last year and a conference champion, so that will be our fourth team on our schedule that played in the national postseason in the previous year."

Maryville now opens the season against three teams the Scots are playing for the first time in football: at Hendrix on Sept. 6, at Ohio Wesleyan on Sept. 13 and home against Pikeville on Sept. 27. The team's bye week moves to Sept. 20.
