Former Scot Jacob Johnston Tabbed by Helton as New Baseball Assistant

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Head baseball coach Clint Helton has named Jacob Johnston as his new assistant baseball coach. Johnston graduated from MC after last season, and played three seasons for the Scots.

"We are excited to welcome JJ to our staff this year. He brings valuable experience from his playing career and has been an important part of our program since 2023. From his early days at Maryville College, it was clear that he was on a path toward coaching. He is a true baseball mind who understands the game at a high level. As a coach, it is rewarding to see former players grow into their careers—whether in business, exercise science, professional baseball, education, or coaching—and we are proud to have been part of their development."

Johnston played in 108 games for the Scots, dating back to Feb. 11 2023 when he made his debut for the team against Eastern Mennonite. In 2024 he was named All-CCS First Team after hitting .365, with two triples, six doubles, 33 RBI, 39 runs scored, 18 walks, and seven stolen bases.

JJ fills the spot left by former assistant Drew Henry who recently took a full-time coaching roll with Lynchburg.
