Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn - Maryville's men's tennis, looking to continue their momentum into Saturday, February 28th, took on Pfeiffer University in a non-conference matchup. With the Scots looking to even the score, Pfeiffer took the match 5-2.
Doubles was a hot start for the Scots, with #2 pair Jackson Meyer and Benjamin Schneider blitzing to a 6-1 win. Shortly after that, #3 pair Field Myatt and Grant Price secured the doubles point, carrying forward the momentum from the day prior with a 6-3 scoreline.
Singles proved to be competitive for Maryville as well. At the #1 position, James Smith continued his good form to dominate the match 6-3 6-2 and set the Scots up at 2-1 in the scoreline. Myatt also battled in a tight three set match, but unfortunately fell 3-6 6-2 4-6.
"This level of competition was similar to what we're going to face at the top of the CCS," Head Coach Doug Corbett said. "Winning the doubles point was very encouraging, we just need to dig deeper in our film and work smart in practice."
Maryville will look to get a win when they open up their conference play with a road match at Huntingdon College on March 7th. The match will take place at 12 p.m. central time.
