Baseball Selected to Second Straight NCAA Tournament

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Back-to-back! The Scots baseball team has been selected to the NCAA DIII Tournament for the fourth time in program history, and the first time in back-to-back seasons. 

The Scots finished the season #29 in the NPI (NCAA Power Index) after their fifth straight 20-win season in program history, finishing with an overall record of 27-17, with six wins over ranked opponents, including top-ten foes #4 Lynchburg and  #9 Adrian.

Maryville will play in the Lynchburg regional against Christopher Newport on Friday, May 15 at 2:30 PM. Lynchburg and  Penn State Behrend are also in the regional. 

Christopher Newport finished the season 24-15 overall and most recently fell to No. 7 Salisbury in the C2C conference tournament, 7-8. CNU's most notable wins on the season are a 17-5 win over No. 13 Cortland, a 3-1 win over No. 25 Randolph-Macon, and a 2-0 win over No. 11 Salisbury. 
 
CNU is led offensively by junior Aaron Maxie, who is batting .414 on the year with 29 runs, 38 RBI, and four home runs. Their best starting pitcher is senior Cooper Newell, who has a 3.41 ERA and a 5-0 record. 

Penn State Behrend finished with a 31-10 record overall and a 13-4 mark in conference play. Most notably, they won the AMCC Championship against Alfred State on May 9. 

Lynchburg, which the Scots defeated 8-3 on March 4, is the host of the regional. They finished with an overall record of 36-6-1, and 18-1-1 in ODAC play. The Hornets most recently fell to Shenandoah in the ODAC Championship game on May 9.
