Logsdon earns first collegiate win in 6-1 bout with SUNY-Oneonta

Box Score

Maryville College freshman pitcher Joe Logsdon earned his first collegiate victory on Wednesday, as the Scots downed SUNY-Oneonta, 6-1.

Logsdon gave the Scots 6.1 innings on the day, allowing just four hits in 28 batters faced. The Cape Coral, Fla. native struck out five, while giving up just a single run.

On the season, the freshman had only pitched 5.1 innings of work, as hurled for more innings on Monday than he had the rest of the season combined.

Maryville was led offensively by Andrew Henry and Derek Hurt. Both Scots went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the victory. Johnny Carpenter added a pair hits, as Logan Hayes, Drew Johnson and Evan Ezell each tallied hits. Bryce Redaja added MC's only RBI with a sacrifice.

After Henry singled up the middle to start the bottom of the first, Maryville would add their first run. Hayes advanced him to second with a sacrifice, before Henry would score on a wild pitch two batters later to give Maryville a 1-0 lead going to the second.

Logsdon had his no-hitter bid interrupted in the top of the fourth, when Dalton Beatty singled up the middle. Logsdon, with the help of his infield, got two outs before loading the bags with a walk and a hit by pitch. The freshman got out of the inning with a groundout to maintain the Scots' lead.

Maryville got a pair of runners in scoring position to start the bottom of the fifth. Redaja used a long sacrifice fly to score Henry from third. His second run of the day gave the Scots a 2-0 lead going to the sixth inning.

The Red Dragons scored their first run off a pair of hits in the sixth. Chris Saitch scored from third off of Sage Cheren's sacrifice fly to left. Jonny Carpenter's throw was cut off, leaving the score at 2-1 Scots.

SUNY-Oneonta got a pair of runners on with only one out in the top of the 7th, as Zach McGee came on in relief. The Scots forced a double play up the middle to maintain their slim lead.

With Hurt on third, Redaja used a walk to put runners on the corner. Redaja went on a delayed steal, as Hurt stole home on the throw. The Red Dragons tried to throw him down, at home, before throwing the ball away. Redaja would score from second on the error to give MC a 4-1 lead.

A double steal in the bottom of the eighth put runners at second and third. Hayden Hollingsworth scored as a pinch runner off a wild pitch. A walk and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bags, before a passed ball scored Hurt from third. Going to the ninth, Maryville led 6-1.

Joe Jones would come in to close things with a strikeout to secure Maryville's win.

The Scots look next to Berry College, as they host the Vikings on Scotland Yard. The game is slated for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8.
