Novotny’s 72 Sparks Scots in Georgia

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. –
Last year, Colton Novotny found even par on Day 1 of the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational. This time, he saved it for the final 18.
 
Maryville's Novotny birdied the final hole Tuesday for his fourth birdie of the day to come home in 72 strokes for his second collegiate even par round. Both have happened at the Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club.
 
His play bumped the junior to a tie for 48th place in the 124-player field.
 
Novotny shot 78-72—150 for 6 over par to lead the Scots, who improved by five strokes overall and jumped two places to 16th. Maryville as a team shot 37-over 613.
 
Josh Lunsford shot 75 for his best round as a Scot. He improved nine strokes over Monday's round and finished in a tie for 95th place at 15-over 159.
 
Jacob Dunlap carded his second straight 78 to land in a tie for 76th place at 12-over-par 156. He was followed by Tristen Evans with 79 to round out the Maryville scoring on Tuesday. Evans finished in a tie for 88th place at 14-over 158. Joshua Cornell closed with 85 to finish in a tie for 95th at 15-over 159.
 
Washington & Lee jumped past Greensboro for team honors, winning with a 5-under 571 to Greensboro's 573. Guilford (581), Gettysburg (582) and Cal Lutheran (582) rounded out the top five. Medalist honors went to Birmingham-Southern's Tanner Bronnum, who shot back-to-back 68s to finish at 8-under-par 136.
 
The Scots are back in action Oct. 24-25 at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Berry.
