Maryville Finishes 7th at Home Invitational

MARYVILLE – Maryville improved by seven strokes over Monday's opening round but dropped to a seventh-place finish at the Maryville College Invitational. The tournament took place at Wind River Golf Club.
 
Bryan shaved 19 strokes off its Round 1 team score and leapfrogged both the Scots and Belhaven into fifth place. Point and Bob Jones both fired second-round scores of 297 to finish 1-2 in the team standings, with Hampden-Sydney third and Walters State fourth.
 
A.J. Rinehart carded a second straight even-par 72 to take medalist honors for Walters State. First-round leader Jacob Joseph shot 77 after a first-round 68 to finish in second place one stroke back.
 
Maryville's Colton Novotny posted 78-74—152 to finish in a tie for 11th place at 8 over par, the top Scots result. Novotny edged teammate Tristen Evans by one stroke after Evans shot 75-78—153 to land at 9 over. Jacob Dunlap improved by six strokes to finish in a tie for 30th place at 16-over 160.
 
Reid Morgan and Jack Craig both climbed 25 places on the leaderboard after their Tuesday rounds. Morgan improved from 88 to 75 and finished in a tie for 38th place at 19-over 163, while Craig bounced from 92 to 73 and tied for 47th place at 21-over 165. Eli Goldes also was in that group at 21 over par after bumping up 16 places thanks to a 77 Tuesday that was 11 strokes better than his Monday 88.
 
The Scots as a team shot 311 Tuesday to finish at 53-over 629.
 
Maryville is back in action Monday and Tuesday of next week at the Jack Ingram/Pfeiffer Fall Invitational over in Mt. Gilead, North Carolina.
