MARYVILLE – A terrific Maryville tennis season has helped three Scots earn postseason recognition from the Collegiate Conference of the South.
Mia Brown earned CCS Rookie of the Year and All-CCS Second Team honors, while
Elizabeth Shwaiko was named All-CCS First Team and
Katelyn Cook landed a place on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Brown was the top rookie pick after going 12-8 in singles, including an impressive 6-1 mark at the No. 3 position. In doubles, the first-year Scot is 10-9 overall and a sparkling 6-3 at No. 3. Her best pairing has been the No. 3 position with
Mandy Webb, where they have fashioned a 5-2 record to date.
Shwaiko's play helped the Scots improve by three games over last season to an 11-8 overall mark. The senior was 9-11 in singles, including a 4-4 record at the No. 1 position. In doubles, Shwaiko posted an 11-8 mark and went 10-7 at the No. 1 position. Her best pairing this year has been a 7-3 mark with Cook.
Cook was nominated by the coaching staff to the All-Sportsmanship Team. She stands 11-11 in singles and has faired best at the No. 2 position, where she is 7-1. In doubles, the sophomore is 10-10, with her best pairing the 7-3 record alongside Shwaiko.
Third-seeded Maryville on Thursday defeated Belhaven 5-0 in the opening round of the CCS Tournament at the Chattanooga Champions Club. The Scots take on second-seeded Covenant on Friday at 10 a.m.
