Maryville Baseball Selected for NCAA Tournament

MARYVILLE - The Scots have punched their ticket to the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 1977.

Maryville found out their seed and regional placement today during the NCAA selection show, and will play in the Lynchburg regional against Emory on Friday. The format for the regional is double elimination, with the winner of the regional needing to win three games to advance to the super regional, which will be a best-of-three series against the Mount Union regional winner. From there, the winner will advance to the NCAA DIII College World Series in Eastlake, Ohio. The D-III World Series format has two four-team double-elimination pools with the winner of each pool meeting in a best-of-three series. This year, the schedule adds a practice day between Pod play and the Championship Series.

Regionals will take place from May 16-18, Super Regionals on May 23 and 24, and the World Series May 30 - June 5.

Coach Helton praised his team's effort this year,
"They love each other and go out and compete every day. They deserve this. To be the first team to get to this spot since the 70's, as a former player and now as a coach, this is special, especially after missing out last year"
