MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville men's soccer showed grit and composure Tuesday night, erasing a first-half deficit to defeat Warren Wilson 2-1 at the MC Soccer Complex. The win pushes the Scots to 5-2-4 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.
The visitors struck first in the 19th minute when Warren Wilson's John Rhoden found the back of the net to give the Owls an early advantage. Despite controlling much of the possession and firing five shots in the opening half, the Scots went into the break trailing 1-0.
Maryville responded after halftime with constant pressure, tallying 10 second-half shots and six corner kicks for the night. The breakthrough came in the 74th minute when Nate Riepe delivered the game-tying shot to swing momentum back in the Scots' favor.
Just over 10 minutes later, the Scots struck again. In the 86th minute, Ben Brophy found the back of the net off an assist from Ethan Denney.
Goalkeeper Alon Biger made one save between the posts to secure the result, while the Scots' defense held Warren Wilson to just four total shots.
Maryville finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corners, showcasing their dominance in attacking.
The Scots are back in action Saturday, October 4th in Jackson, Mississippi to take on the Belhaven Blazers at 3:30 PM.
