Box Score The Maryville College diamondmen, seeded seventh in their inaugural USA South baseball tournament, shut out the No. 2 seeded North Carolina Battling Bishops 12-0 in their opening game in Wilson, North Carolina on Thursday evening.
The Scots pounded out 18 hits while junior right-hander Matt Dyer kept the Bishop bats silent allowing only three hits in six innings. Maryville's defense was stellar behind Dyer and reliever Robbie Britt.
MC's offense was paced by Chris Hamilton going 5-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Landon Talley added a 4-for-5 afternoon with three runs scored and a game-high four RBIs. Travis Scates and Nick Dean added a pair of run scoring hits while Garrett Gresham added a 2-for-4 effort at the plate.
Maryville 16-20 will remain in the winners bracket in the double elimination tournament and will face the winner of the Methodist/ Averett matchup concluding the first day of action in North Carolina. The Scots will await their first pitch at 1:00 on Friday at Five Point Stadium.
