Box Score The Maryville College women's soccer program dropped their fourth USA South challenge of the season in a tough 2-0 road loss at Salem College on Friday afternoon in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Salem defeated the Scots 2-1 at the end of double-overtime on MC's home pitch earlier in September.
Riding a two-match win streak, Maryville could not manage a consistent offensive attack with the Spirits matching offensive bursts.
A scoreless first half continued until the 17-minute mark of the second half.
Salem's Brooke Bukas took a Maddie Crumpton pass and broke past MC's defense and connected on an attack that sailed by Scots' keeper Mandy Marshall for the eventual game-winner.
Only eight minutes later, Jasmine Romero attacked the net from the left and was turned away by MC's Marshall. Kylie Dillow collected the rebound and sent the ball into the lower right for the final goal of the afternoon.
Maryville's Marshall turned away nine saves in the loss in net. Salem's Hannah Wagner earned the win in goal with one save as the Spirit out-shot the Scots 16-8 on the day.
The loss moves Maryville to 8-7-1 on the season and 8-4-1 in USA South action. The Scots are presently in fourth place in the USA South Western Division standings.
Salem advances to 15-1-1 overall and 11-1-1 in USA South play ranking second in the USA South Western Division.
MC will conclude their regular season slate with a match at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
