Scots end season in USA South Quarterfinals with 2-0 loss to Salem

Box Score

The Maryville College women's soccer season came to an end in the USA South quarterfinals with a 2-0 loss to Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

The hometown Spirits (17-1-1) used a cross on a free kick by Alyssa Denkovich to allow Martha Santos to push a goal past MC keeper Mandy Marshall in the 30th minute for the eventual game-winner. The goal was Santos' fourth of the season.

Salem tacked on an insurance goal in the 68th minute when Maddie Compton passed to Santos allowing her to loft a goal high just out of the reach of MC's goalie.

Salem will advance to the USA South semifinals next weekend.

Maryville concludes their 2016 campaign with a 10-8-1 overall mark.

Highlights of the season include 10 shutouts by the Scots stingy defense. Natasha Enrique paced MC in scoring with seven goals and 15 points. Casey Gentile added five goals and a team-high three assists for 13 points. Mandy Marshall finishes the season with 55 saves in net to close out her career.
